MUR basics
  • To check a patients understanding of how their medicines should be used
  • To discuss how a patient should use their medicines correctly
  • To check if a patient knows how to use their medicines
  • To provide an explanation of the condition the medication is used for
  • To check if the medication is used as prescribed
  • To pinpoint any issues that may affect the correct use of medicines
  • To identify any side effects experienced from the use of medicines
  • To ascertain if there are medicines no longer used and to remove them

What an MUR is not:

  • About having a discussion to change drug treatment
  • To discuss a medical condition beyond what the drug is intended for
  • About looking at the effectiveness of drug treatment based on clinical test results
  • A comprehensive medication review
